Chilliwack School District #33

Let's Move
Forward, Together

As your trustee, I will amplify your voices and dedicate myself to collaboration and open dialogue with caregivers and the school district.

I am Dedicated to the Students

My name is Teri Westerby and I am asking for your vote for Chilliwack School Board Trustee.

I grew up in the Fraser Valley and have lived in Chilliwack for the past eight years, and throughout that time, I have worked to create positive change.

As your trustee, I will dedicate myself to creating spaces for open dialogue and amplify the voices that need to be heard – of teachers, students and their caregivers.

Teachers need an ally in the district who will help them create safe learning environments that are built to work for all students and their unique learning styles, so every student succeeds.

I will lead with empathy and compassion. I strive to create a sense of community where folks of all backgrounds can come together and feel like they belong.

I have learned that Chilliwack wants to move forward. That people are willing to work together to make progress for our community. Are you ready to move forward, together, Chilliwack?

I ask you to vote for me, Teri Westerby, for Chilliwack School Board Trustee on October 15th.

Moving Chilliwack Forward

It's Time to Work Together

I know that I can make a difference in Chilliwack by amplifying the voices of the students, their caregivers and the teachers of the district. I will use my leadership skills to communicate effectively and push for the community’s needs.

I repeatedly hear stories about students being bullied and excluded due to their differences. Students in the district are underserved, and teachers are unsupported. When that happens, education suffers. I can no longer sit back and hear these stories; I will be stepping up for the teachers, the students, their caregivers and their families.

It’s time to work harmoniously and move the Chilliwack school district forward, together!

safety

No one can be expected to learn if they don’t feel safe. Safety must include affirming support and respect for who they are regardless of identity, expression, ability, background, culture or need. Safety creates a environment that includes everyone.

Support

Just as all students need to be safe to learn, they also need support for their unique learning styles and abilities. Students need someone who will step up and create a learning environment that works for them. Teachers need support to make this happen.

Communication

Caregivers of students deserve to know what's happening within the district. It is also critical that their voices are heard because they are essential in creating proper support and safety for their children.

Community

Having connection to our community fills crucial parts of our lives when we need them the most. Food security, books, and pre-school programs are some of the community connections that I will bring to our schools.

A Vote for Teri Westerby is a Vote for progress

I am privileged to work, learn and live on the unceded traditional territory of the Stó:lō Coast Salish Peoples – Pilalt, Sema:th and Ts’elxwéyeqw.

For the past five years, I have dedicated myself to creating positive change in Chilliwack.

Through my work with the Gender Support Network, Chilliwack Pride Society, Downtown Chilliwack Community Market and Sexuality and Gender Equity Committee through Chilliwack Healthier Communities – I have  learned how to support the community. A community made of many different people with many unique needs.

I listen and help them to navigate the systems. I advocate for them and help them to advocate for themselves. I strive to create a sense of community where folks of all backgrounds can come together and feel like they belong.

I have built connections and relationships with individuals from all walks of life. This experience has taught me how to work collaboratively with people, even when we have different backgrounds and ideas.

I have learned that Chilliwack wants to move forward. That people are willing to work together to make progress for our community and our children.

I will lead with empathy and compassion. I will always have an open door for everyone, and will dedicate myself to creating space for people to speak for themselves
